Commissioned by a client with a passion for traditional craftsmanship, this custom chest of drawers is poised to become a treasured family heirloom. Drawing inspiration from Japanese architecture, reminiscent of the client’s years in Japan, the chest showcases upward-flowing curved chamfers on the drawer tops and mirrored oblique grain patterns on the drawer fronts.
From the initial design phase, this piece exemplifies a dedication to fine craftsmanship with exposed joints, gracefully tapering legs, and through-wedged tenons that enhance its solidity and weight. The flowing grain direction on the drawers and the underarching chamfer on the top further emphasize the attention to detail. The design encourages visual appreciation of the carefully selected timbers, highlighting the contrast between the luxurious Black Walnut and the lighter Sycamore. The simplicity and transparency of the design make a bold yet refined statement.
Royal Armchair Table for the Buckingham Palace
Designed as a centerpiece for the Summer House Restoration Project at Buckingham Palace, this bespoke armchair was prominently featured at Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation Festival in July 2013. A distinguished part of our design portfolio, the Royal Armchair takes inspiration from the graceful Crocus flower.
The chair back showcases six inner petals meticulously crafted from handpicked English walnuts, framed by a surrounding structure of Cherry wood. The petal stems elegantly extend downwards, forming the distinctive chair legs through the open center.
This armchair effortlessly merges contemporary design with traditional craftsmanship, celebrating the natural beauty of fine English hardwoods. As a limited edition piece within our Aestas collection, only five commissions of this exclusive design will be handcrafted to order. In a landscape where Dutch Elm disease has rendered Elm wood increasingly scarce, we secured an exceptional piece of this rare timber. The table’s design embraces simplicity and elegance, harmonizing with the rich grain markings of the Elm. The solid Elm top features tactile curve-chamfered edges and under-arching table rails, ensuring ample legroom for diners.
Contemporary sculptured legs and subtle scoops beneath the tabletop offer a modern interpretation of classic Arts and Crafts embellishment. Finished with multiple coats of protective oil, this table guards against spills and matures with time, acquiring a warm patina.
Designed to comfortably seat eight people, it can be tailored to any size and timber of your preference, catering to individual specifications. Dimensions are provided when ordered, finished with oil, with a guide price of £1,800. Materials include Elm.
